Hadassah Hoffer, Director of Youth Programming; was educated on the streets of Toronto (Keele St in the vicinity of York University), College St (George Brown College neighbourhood) and Yorkville (Formerly the home of YUK YUKs Comedy Club).
A Baales Teshuvah, Hadassah (Heather) has worked with Aish HaTorah in different capacities over the past 8 years.
Beginning at The Village Shul she taught Bat Mitzvah age girls every Shabbat morning. The teaching continued when she moved to Thornhill and transferred to Aish Thornhill, working with Aish 20’s.
Teaching at the very popular Sunday Night Scene, where she became a draw speaking on such topics as media bias and Israel, not to mention her somewhat bizarre and hilarious story of becoming observant. She has taught at NCSY, Ahavat Yisrael Hebrew School, Shaarei Shomayim, and Tiferes Bais Yakov.
In 2002 Hadassah became the Co Coordinator of Aish HaTorah’s Bat Mitzvah program, giving her the opportunity to infuse pride into our young Jewish women.
Last Year in July of 2005 Hadassah took on the challenge of revamping the Shabbat Youth program. With the support of Rabbi and Rebbetzin Rothman, The Shul Board of Directors, dedicated volunteers and phenomenal Youth Leaders, the Youth department has become a vibrant and vital part of The Thornhill Community Shul.
Since we envision the youth to be our future, from Rosh Hashana to Tisha B’AV, TCS Youth are always included!
For children who are just beginning to discover the beauty of Judaism to children who are born into observance, there are programmes & events for them. We have something for everyone.
Hadassah, her husband Newton [another former standup comic and an amazing drummer, (see Purim photos)] and their 4 children (Elkah Shayna, Ezra, Eitan and Aaron) have found a second home and family within the Shul walls.
