The Thornhill Community Shul strives to be a “safe haven” for “Jews of all stripes”, welcoming Jews of all backgrounds and affiliations into its non-judgmental, friendly atmosphere of warmth, Jewish tradition and camaraderie. The goal of the Shul is to create a community that supports, celebrates with and cares for each of its members. In turn, it gives Jews the opportunity to delve into the rich and deep heritage of Jewish life, Torah study and community without the formality that is to often a part of Jewish synagogues.
An important aspect of the Thornhill Community Shul is its passion to welcome new members and visitors thus giving them the opportunity to learn to appreciate Judaism and Jewish life. Every member of the Shul is committed to reaching out to others, while also advancing their personal spiritual growth. The community understands that there is no personal growth without care and interest in the community at large.
Our Rav & Rebbetzin, Rabbi Avram & Ruth Rothman lead by example in creating the warm & friendly atmosphere that the TCS is famous for. The Rabbis classes, passionate drashos & inspiring lectures are the reason that Torah study & exploration are so important to the entire community. In addition, both the Rabbi & Rebbetzin make themselves available for private counselling, one-on-one study & private meetings. They pride themselves on their discretion and one can be assured that what is discussed in private with either the Rav or the Rebbetzin- stays in private with the Rav or the Rebbetzin.
Torah study is done in an interesting and passionate manner. Questions are encouraged and interaction is the norm. Classes range from the secrets of Kabbalah & Jewish philosophy to advice on marriage, childrearing and everyday life through the prism of Torah. From the beginner to the advanced, every class respects the intelligence of the student and is full of surprises.
